New owners of small puppies and adult dogs may, at first, worry that they will not be able to recognize the symptoms of illness in their dogs. The symptoms of illness in dogs do not really vary depending upon dog breed. The symptoms of illness in dogs are fairly common, and there are certainly some signs to watch out for. By keeping a watchful eye on a new puppy or adult dog the pet owner can ensure that the dog receives adequate dog care with immediacy. Immediate dog care ensures the longevity of a dog’s health. Below are some of the most common signs that a dog has become ill.

1. Changes in the Frequency of Urination and Drinking

If a pet dog or puppy illustrates changes in the frequency of urination or in drinking than the dog may be ill. Adult dogs that display this particular issue may have developed issues with its kidneys or liver. These symptoms can appear in puppies or small dogs that have also developed some kind of infection or that have been exposed to poisons. If these symptoms are noted, it is time to contact a vet for an assessment of the dog in question.

If you have a new puppy it is necessary to really learn about the personality of the dog through dog training. Puppies and adult dogs that become sick might display sudden changes in temperament: once vivacious and playful pet dogs, a sick dog may become lethargic or limp. Dogs that were once alert and happy may seem overly melancholic and sleepy. It is important for the pet owner to watch a dog closely and to monitor the dog’s behavior for abrupt changes as such changes can be indicative of dog illness.

3) Changes in the Pet Dog’s Eating Habits

A pet owner must monitor the dog food that a dog or puppy consumes. If changes in what the dog eats occurs, the pet owner should keep a watchful eye on the dog. While changes in diet are not always indicative of illness as a dog may simply come to dislike a particular food, changes in what a dog consumes can be suggestive of digestive ailments. If a dog begins to refrain from eating, it is time to contact a vet for an evaluation of the dog and for potential treatment.

My dog Shaggy is 4 years old. He is a PooChin(it was explained to me that Shaggy is a cross between a poodle and a chinese chin) anyway, for the past 3 days he has not been eating well and though he drinks water its very little. He is losing weight and I don’t want to lose my Shaggy. I know you have heard this before, but financially I can’t take him to a vet now and in the next week when I can he it just may be too late for him. Is there a home remedy I can use or give him, please help me!

Hi Mary, I understand. A 4 year old dog is quite young. You must get medical help for him or put him up for adoption.
