Dog Story- Addicted to Butter

Ok, all right, we’re going to be on Candid Camera right? This dog is HILARIOUS!!! I know I’ve said it before, but, he is so funny and sweet and has a huge heart too ; ))

So… first off… we’ve discovered a few things about him, one of which is he’s a covert butter-licker. I discovered this at 6am one day last week when we came downstairs. I finished putting fresh water in his dish, gave him his breakfast, went to butter my toast and was presented with a slightly less than a 1 lb butter ramp with the same degree of slope as Bob Hope’s nose: Fully intact at the far end but sloping to a 1/4″ sliver at the front, smooth as, well butter. Kris just sat there, licking his greasy lips, looking at me like “what?!” This is where it gets good…

I was in such a hurry that morning that I had just my coffee instead and figured I’d deal with the butter when I got home. I get home at the end of the day, hang up my coat, put my purse down, grab the mail from the front table and say Hi to Robyn, my oldest daughter, who is in the family room, eating french toast. With butter.

SHOCK HORROR!!!

Um… what to do? Do I say something? NO. So I go into the kitchen and cautiously peer over at the butter slope, which now has moguls. Great!

#1 daughter says, “Mom, I noticed the butter is a really weird shape - lately”. I quickly turn, scrape 1/8″ off the top of it and say, Really? For how long?”.. Reply: “Oh, about a couple of weeks”. Arrgghh!

Nancy, as you know, he’s a very tall dog. He can rest his head on our kitchen table with little effort or stretch. He can poop 3′ up a tree in the winter. You Texans are amazing!

So.. the other night Ian and I are in the family room, we’re heading up to bed. I said, “I’ll shut off the lights and you take Kris up”. Great, they head upstairs. I shut everything off and away I go. I hear Ian in the kitchen. It’s dark. I go back, look in the kitchen and see Ian standing on the other side of the island, at the kitchen sink. I said “I thought you went up to bed?”, turn on the light and Ian has, to my horror, grown floppy ears, shrunk a few inches and now has black fur on his balding head and down his back. KRIS!!! Get down!!! Somehow, Ian made it upstairs and Kris didn’t. He went back to check for any tidbits that may have been left on the counter. It looked just like the silhouette of a man standing there, too funny!

So, he’s not just a dog, he’s also a covert butter-licking Counter Surfer dude!! We’re thinking Rehab, but then he might just shave his head and then we’ll never know if it’s Ian standing in the kitchen late at night or not. Best leave him alone and just keep checking the butter. A lot. LOL

He’s still hogging the bed - that’s a whole other story for another day - , but he’s a good cuddler and curls up at the end on my side (because I’m short) so it’s all right ; )))

Hope all is well in your neck of the woods! Say Hi to Tony for us.
